This move was approved by shareholders on April 30, 2025, and the spin-off will take effect on May 31, 2025.

Anglo American announced the successful completion of the unbundling of its approximately 51% interest in the Valterra Platinum platinum group metals (PGM) business and the related share consolidation. This strategic move received shareholder approval on April 30, 2025, with the unbundling becoming effective on May 31, and the share consolidation on June 1. Following the unbundling, Anglo American will retain approximately 19.9% of Valterra Platinum shares, planning to hold these shares for at least 90 days post-unbundling and manage them over time to achieve complete separation.

Duncan Wanblad, Chief Executive Officer of Anglo American, said: "This is a significant moment for both Anglo American and Valterra Platinum. For Anglo American, this is a key step in our plan to unlock the inherent value of our overall portfolio, as we become even more focused on our world-class positions in copper, premium iron ore, and crop nutrients." "Valterra Platinum has been an important part of the company for many years, but now is the optimal time for it to optimize its value creation prospects on an independent path – Valterra Platinum is an excellent business and team, and I am fully confident that Valterra Platinum will become a leader in the global platinum group metals industry."

On May 28, Valterra Platinum listed as an independent entity on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, completing its unbundling from Anglo American. The unbundling of Anglo Platinum (formerly Anglo American Platinum), a platinum group metals producer headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, aligns with Anglo American's strategy to focus on copper and iron ore. Currently, Anglo American is undergoing several major structural reforms to rapidly achieve its strategic priorities of growth, operational excellence, and portfolio simplification.
