The commencement of construction still requires a swift approval decision, which is expected to be rendered in October 2026.
Santana Minerals has entered into a contract with Komatsu New Zealand to construct mining equipment valued at NZ$115 million (US$65.8 million) for its Bendigo-Ophir gold mine project, thereby securing the delivery of the critical mobile equipment required to commence construction. The project’s launch remains contingent on the Fast-Track Approval (FTA) decision, which is scheduled to be announced on October 29, 2026.
The fleet will comprise major excavators, notably the PC3400 and PC2000 models, as well as Komatsu’s 140-ton-class HD1500 haul trucks. These assets are part of a leasing agreement backed by OEM financing provided by Komatsu. Additional equipment, including bulldozers, wheel loaders, haul trucks, and motor graders, will also be supplied to support ancillary operations and related tasks. Under the terms of the agreement, Komatsu will deliver comprehensive long-term support—encompassing operational, technical, and financial assistance—to ensure the performance and reliability of the mining equipment. This support package includes a five-year on-site technical support program with dedicated personnel and extended product support.
Maintenance and parts support will be provided through on-site parts availability and discounted pricing arrangements. In addition, technical and systems support will cover fleet management, condition monitoring, and performance systems. A training program is an integral part of our commitment to enhancing productivity and ensuring efficient operations. This program includes both productivity training and simulator-based training, designed to rapidly improve operational efficiency while maintaining consistent performance levels. Damian Spring, CEO of Santana Minerals, stated: “Operating as a wholly owned mining company eliminates the contractor margin typically embedded in mining costs, making us a lower-cost operator. Our on-site workforce model further reinforces this advantage by eliminating the costs associated with employee commutes, while Komatsu provides robust OEM support. Moreover, grid-connected processing infrastructure ensures stability in key cost drivers throughout the mine’s entire lifecycle.” In July 2025, Matakanui Gold, a subsidiary of Santana Minerals, entered into a binding agreement to acquire the Ardgour Station land, which forms a critical component of the Bendigo-Ophir gold project.
