This cooperation aims to strengthen the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies by one of the world's largest iron ore producers.
Somerset International has established a strategic partnership with Omnipro to provide advanced sustainable mining solutions for Brazil's booming mining industry. This collaboration aims to strengthen the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies in one of the world's largest iron ore producing countries. Rodrigo Gouveia, Executive Vice President of Business Development at Somerset International, stated: "The partnership with Omnipro significantly strengthens our presence in Brazil and supports our broader expansion in Latin America. Their profound industry insights and strong local relationships enable us to provide greater value to Brazilian mining companies committed to sustainable growth."
The alliance between Somerset and Omnipro will promote the deployment of Somerset's patented tailings dewatering and mineral recovery systems in Brazil. Omnipro will leverage its local expertise to identify new business opportunities, provide market intelligence, and connect with influential figures in the mining industry. Vittorio Capparelli, Director of Omnipro, stated: "We are very excited about our partnership with Somerset and are confident in the results we will achieve. This also represents a significant step forward in how our company is presented in the mining market, bringing innovative solutions to our clients."
Brazil's commitment to developing its mining industry was clearly demonstrated in January this year with the announcement of US$815 million (R$5.01 billion) in funding for strategic mineral projects. This initiative, spearheaded by Brazil's Caixa Econômica Federal and Brazil's National Metal Exchange, aims to strengthen Brazil's position as a major raw material supplier and develop high-value metal products. A total of R$5 billion has been allocated to support businesses through credit lines and equity investments. To complement these developments, Vale has also launched the Capanema Maximization Project within its Mariana operations complex in Minas Gerais. This project, set to begin in December 2024, is expected to increase Vale's iron ore capacity by approximately 15 million tons/year. The project aims to achieve an annual production of 340 to 360 million tons by 2026 and will adopt a natural moisture processing method, eliminating the need for dams and tailings dams, further promoting the sustainable transformation of Brazil's mining industry.
