The company has been requested to submit four reports on the causes and consequences of the accident.

According to Reuters, citing two sources familiar with the matter, Chilean mining company Codelco has requested permission from the Chilean mining regulator Sernageomin to reopen parts of its El Teniente mine. This follows the collapse of a building last week, which resulted from an earthquake and caused the death of six workers.

El Teniente is one of the world's largest underground copper mines, producing over 300,000 tons of copper last year. Mining operations at El Teniente were halted for search and rescue efforts, followed by an official suspension of mining operations by Sernageomin. Codelco has been required to submit four reports on the causes and consequences of the accident before the suspension of production can be reconsidered. The company has stated that it has complied with three information requests from Sernageomin and the Chilean labor inspectorate. In addition to the above, Codelco has been carrying out cleaning and maintenance work on El Teniente's processing plant and smelter. The company has also been running the smelter's anode furnace every two hours to ensure the equipment remains operational. A source close to Codelco's operations said that entering "maintenance mode" was due to the cessation of mining activities after the accident, resulting in no copper available for processing. Despite the suspension of underground mining, Codelco initially continued its processing and smelting operations. However, the company must now seek permission to resume mining to sustain its operations.

Amerigo Resources' wholly-owned subsidiary, Minera Valle Central (MVC), has also been affected by the production halt. Since 1992, MVC has been dedicated to producing copper concentrate by processing fresh and historical tailings from Codelco's El Teniente mine. MVC will continue to process historical tailings, while the processing of fresh tailings will be suspended until El Teniente resumes operations. The full impact on Amerigo's annual production is yet to be determined, depending on the duration of the El Teniente copper mine closure. Currently, MVC estimates a daily copper production loss of 100,000 pounds.
