This simulator provides a "safe and cost-effective" training environment suitable for modern mining operations.

Sandvik Mining has launched the AutoMine Surface Drilling Training Simulator, a tool designed to enhance operator skills and improve the efficiency of the automated drilling process. This simulator is compatible with all i-series surface drills and offers a "realistic, safe, and cost-effective" training environment tailored to the demands of modern mining operations. The simulator allows trainees to operate up to three identical drills simultaneously, focusing on key tasks such as path planning, autonomous production cycle management, and real-time monitoring of drilling progress. It uses the same realistic camera views as those used in actual AutoMine operations, along with dedicated virtual modules for AutoMine safety system training. The simulator features a compact, portable transport case design for easy mobility and quick setup. It is equipped with real pedals and control devices, providing an experience highly similar to the real environment.

It operates as a standalone unit without requiring an external network connection and utilizes components from Sandvik's existing training platform. The simulator also contributes to sustainability by shifting most of the training process to a virtual environment. This approach reduces fuel consumption, minimizes equipment wear, and lowers carbon emissions, delivering measurable environmental benefits while maintaining high training standards. Its portable design supports rapid deployment across global operations, enabling consistent training standards at multiple sites regardless of local infrastructure. The simulator's structured training program is compatible with both the AutoMine universal operator station and drill-specific stations, covering all aspects of the AutoMine system, including operation control, diagnostics, and troubleshooting, ensuring comprehensive skill development for operators and technicians.

Anu Pyysalo, Automation Manager for Sandvik Mining Learning Solutions, stated: "The AutoMine Surface Drilling Training Simulator provides operators with an immersive, hands-on environment where they can practice, make mistakes, and improve their skills before working in an actual mine, bridging the gap between classroom learning and operational readiness. This approach accelerates learning, builds confidence, and ensures operators are well-prepared to safely and effectively manage complex automated systems." In May of this year, Sandvik launched AutoMine Surface Fleet, a feature designed to support the management of more than 15 Sandvik surface i-series drills from any connected location.
