According to the Ministry of Mining and Geology, the country's total shipments of key aluminum ore amounted to 39.41 million tons.

Despite disruptions caused by seasonal weather conditions and intensified regulatory scrutiny, Guinea's bauxite exports still grew by 23% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025 (Q3 2025). According to Reuters, citing data from the Ministry of Mines and Geology, the country's total shipments of critical aluminum ore reached 39.41 million tons, up from 32 million tons in the same period last year. The majority of these exports were destined for China. However, the average monthly export volume in Q3 stood at 13.14 million tons, representing a nearly 19% decline compared to the first half of the year. This drop underscores the impact of heavy rainfall on mining operations and port activities in Guinea, the world's second-largest producer of bauxite.

The recent actions taken by the military-led government—including revoking mining licenses and pressuring companies to build alumina refineries—have introduced a degree of uncertainty into operations. Citing Bernabé Sánchez, an independent mineral economist specializing in Guinea, the news agency noted: "At current production levels, Guinea's annual bauxite output could reach approximately 180 million tons—significantly lower than the first half of the year but still more than 20% higher than last year's record." Chinese enterprises hold a dominant position in Guinea's bauxite market, controlling around 54.6% of exports in the third quarter. Leading the way is MCC Weili, with a production volume of 17.51 million tons, followed closely by Chinalco and CDM-CHINE. Guinea's substantial contribution—accounting for roughly one-third of China's bauxite imports—has further strengthened Beijing's influence over the global aluminum supply chain. In stark contrast to declining steel production, China's aluminum output surged by 2.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025.

According to official Chinese data, this growth is attributed to strong demand from the electric vehicle industry and infrastructure projects. Guinea is currently preparing for the first shipments of the Simandou iron ore project, with the majority of the high-grade ore destined for China. This development not only strengthens Beijing's control over Guinea's mineral exports but also solidifies Conakry's position as a key supplier to China's industrial needs. Despite government efforts to promote the development of domestic alumina refineries, Guinea exported only 78,000 tons of alumina in the third quarter of 2025.
