KEP is expected to produce its first batch of gold in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.

Capricorn Metals has begun development activities for the Karlawinda Expansion Project (KEP) in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. KEP is expected to produce its first batch of gold in the first quarter (Q1) of fiscal year 2027 (FY27). KEP will increase the processing capacity of the Karlawinda gold mine to 6.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), with an expected annual gold production of approximately 150,000 ounces. In October 2024, Capricorn's board approved the expansion of the Karlawinda gold mine project. The company received regulatory approval for the KEP development project last month. The company stated that the project is progressing on multiple fronts, with rapid on-site progress.

Capricorn Executive Chairman Mark Clark said, "We are very pleased that the preliminary development work for the Karlawinda expansion project has started smoothly. We are fully prepared and striving to commence construction as soon as possible." "We look forward to the project increasing the low-cost, high-margin Karlawinda gold mine's gold production by 25%, reaching about 150,000 ounces per year, and delivering significant value to Capricorn shareholders after commencing operations in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027."

KEP's construction activities include the completion and operation of an accommodation village expansion project with 164 rooms. The plant site has been cleared, and large-scale earthworks are currently underway. The KEP warehouse building has been completed and is now under construction. The plant's concrete contractor is in place and has commissioned a concrete batching plant responsible for auxiliary facilities and building floor construction, preparing the plant site. Excavation work for the Bibra pit box cut has started, consistent with the mine expansion plan. Mining activities at the Beric pit have also commenced, and clearing and excavation work for Tailings Storage Facility No. 2 is ongoing. The plant design is about 75% complete, and all mechanical equipment packages have been pre-ordered. The ball mill has been purchased, expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, with commissioning planned for the following quarter.
