The Natural Resources and Forestry Department's allocation made the niobium and tantalum project possible.
NioBay Metals announced that its first batch of niobium and tantalum oxide products will be delivered from the SGS pilot plant located in Quebec City, Canada.
This initiative is funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's Mining Exploration Support Program for Critical and Strategic Minerals.
The Crevier project is located approximately 50 kilometers north of Girardville, 150 kilometers from the Niobec mine, in the southwest of Nitaskinan, the ancestral territory of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation.
This funding aims to demonstrate the niobium-tantalum concentration process at a pilot scale, enabling NioBay to validate the robustness of its processing flow.
NioBay Metals announced that the first shipment to potential clients or partners will allow the company to confirm that its products meet the necessary standards required by clients.
This first shipment is part of a series of shipments, with more expected to be delivered to other interested parties this month.
The company is also collaborating with research partners such as Laval University, CENET, and URSTM, distributing concentrates to test alternative methods of producing ammonium niobium oxalate (ANO).
Currently, the Crevier project remains focused on producing niobium oxide for battery manufacturers and tantalum oxide for high-tech applications.
NioBay President and CEO Jean-Sébastien David stated: “We have just pushed the Crevier project to a new historical high. The first product delivery to Europe is only the beginning. Consumer trials will allow us to continue communicating and collaborating with these potential clients to provide products that meet their needs. We hope our shareholders are proud of this progress and thank them in advance for their support.”
In addition to the Crevier project, NioBay holds 100% ownership of the James Bay niobium project in Ontario and a 72.5% stake in the Crevier niobium-tantalum project in Quebec.
The company also has the right to acquire an 80% interest in the Foothills titanium-phosphate project near the former Saint-Urbain mine in Quebec.
